Christchurch as a Sustainable City

The aim of this study is to produce an analytical model of a fully sustainable city. It is proposed to investigate whether a small city, such as Christchurch (Canterbury, New Zealand), with a   population less than half a million people, is capable of sustainably fulfilling the needs of its population in terms of energy, food, water, and other essential requirements. Sustainability in this case is the constraint of no fossil fuels or one-time use of mineral products.  The study will determine the required lifestyle and commitments of the population to meet the sustainable proposal and investigate the feedback systems necessary to achieve this goal.
